Rudolf Peierels
After fleaing to America after Hitler became to power this Jew had been asked to join into the making of the Manhattan project. He wrote a 3 page paper that that talked about energy that was being released in a nuclear chain reaction and how one could devise an atomic bomb from a small amount of fissable uranium-235. The paper started a spark in creating the Manhattan Project. He was directed to be "the British Mission". This meant that he was in charge of a small group that was concerned with evaluating the chain reaction in its efficency. When being considered to be apart of the project many were very hesitant about letting him join because they were afraid of his German origin.
